Fred Haines

Born at Meaford, Ontario in 1879, Frederick Haines attended the Meaford High School. Haines began exhibiting in with the Ontario Society of artists in 1901 and in 1906 was elected to be a member of this society. In 1920, Frederick Haines was appointed Secretary department of Graphic Art, Canadian National Exhibition, and by 1924 he was the commissioner of Fine Arts. He returned to painting full time in 1951 at his studio and home in Thornhill, Ontario. Today his art can be found in the collections of National Gallery of Canada, Meaford High School, Thornhill High School, and Hart House at the University of Toronto, and in the I.B.M. Collection.
